1 John 2:15-17 "Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever."
John is encouraging the believers to not love the things of this world. Everything in this world ultimately passes away.
I too easily fall in love with the world. I particularly am challenged when John mentions "boasting of what he has and does." I often times think about my stuff and my career. I like my stuff and am proud of my career. These will all pass away eventually. It may not seem like I am loving them, but I sure give them a lot of attention and thought. I need to love the kingdom and not the world.
Dear Jesus, help me to first love you and your kingdom and not care for the things of this world. Amen.
