Matthew 15:8 "These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me."
Jesus quotes Isaiah and calls the Pharisees hypocrites. He tells them that they say all the right things but their hearts are not in it and not with God.
These words of Jesus haunt me. I often fear that my words honor Jesus but my heart does not. Each day I want to make sure my heart is right before I even open my mouth. Before I ever try to point someone else to Jesus I need to make sure my heart is directed towards him. It all starts with my heart. I can do this by daily taking the time to read his word and spend time talking with him and getting my heart right.
Dear Jesus, help me take the time to get my heart right each day. Amen.
