Isaiah 8:13-14 "The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, He is the one you are to fear, He is the one you are to dread, and He will be a sanctuary."
Isaiah is telling the Israelites they are to fear God alone. He is the one who is holy. Isaiah also mentions that He will be a sanctuary.
I just found it interesting that we are to fear God and in fact dread Him, yet He is our sanctuary. That is a difficult thing to comprehend. How can God be a sanctuary if He is so fearful and dreadful? I guess a sanctuary is a safe place. Is there any more of a safe place than in the presence of the most fearful and dreadful being in existence? I guess I'm glad He is on my side. Who can harm you if everyone fears and dreads Him? It's like having a T-Rex as a best friend!
Dear Jesus, help me to fear and dread your power and yet still see you as my sanctuary. Amen.
